Cultivate - A shared future: A closer look at our official language minority communities (2024)
Ensuring the vitality of official language communities
Fostering the vitality of official language minority communities means investing in a diverse, open and respectful Canada.
Close attention should be given to:
- issues related to Francophone immigration;
- the rapid allocation of funds to community organizations;
- the increase in the number of federal points of service offering bilingual services; and
- the impact of certain laws on Quebec's English-speaking communities.
Prioritizing intergovernmental agreements
It is essential that federal entities and provincial and territorial governments have agreements that include clear language clauses.
Using survey data
The results of Statistics Canada’s Survey on the Official Language Minority Population will be used to support:
- research;
- community development; and
- policy development.
