The Société historique de Saint-Boniface is founded

The organization’s mission is to preserve the richness of French-Canadian heritage.

Dedicated to preserving and promoting Francophone and Métis heritage, the Société historique de Saint-Boniface documents the presence of Francophones in Western Canada and, in particular, in Manitoba.

The Centre du patrimoine houses the most important archival collections documenting the Francophone presence in Western Canada from the 1730s—when La Vérendrye, his sons and their men established the first trading outposts west of the Great Lakes and farther into the interior of the continent—to the present.
