The Société des Acadiens du Nouveau-Brunswick organizes the Convention d’orientation nationale

In Edmundston, New Brunswick, 1,200 delegates discuss the creation of an Acadian province and a more equitable share of political power.

The debates raised the need to restructure the Société.

At its January 1980 meeting, the organization set out to identify a collective Acadian project and encourage Acadians to get involved. At the time, the Société des Acadiens du Nouveau-Brunswick had no permanent or recognized structure.
