The first Frye Festival is held

This bilingual international literary festival was created in honour of Northrop Frye (1912–1991), who grew up in Moncton, New Brunswick. It welcomes English- and French-speaking authors and attracts audiences from both official language communities.

The Festival showcases a rich mixture of local, Canadian and international authors, poets, playwrights, novelists and storytellers are in attendance in a variety of community venues in Moncton.

In October 2014, the Frye Festival received the Commissioner of Official Languages’ Award of Excellence – Promotion of Linguistic Duality.
