The federal government decides to eliminate the Court Challenges Program

Official language minority communities mobilize in the wake of the decision.

The Program provided support for major court cases dealing with equality rights and language rights for official language minority communities.

The Commissioner conducted an investigation and in the fall of 2007 concluded that the federal government had not met its obligations under Part VII of the Act. The communities reacted strongly and brought the case before the Federal Court.

In 2008, the Court Challenges Program was replaced by the Language Rights Support Program.
