Ontario passes the French Language Services Act

The French Language Services Act guarantees many language rights for Franco-Ontarians.

The Act was intended to highlight the contribution of the Franco-Ontarian community and to ensure the public’s right to receive provincial government services in French, especially in designated regions.

The Act did not come into force until November 19, 1989. The right to services in French allows all citizens who request services in French to receive them from provincial government offices and many Ontario organizations.
