Notre Place becomes the official anthem of Franco-Ontarians

The Legislative Assembly of Ontario passed the motion made by Glengarry–Prescott–Russell MPP Grant Crack to recognize the song Notre Place as the official anthem of Francophones in Ontario.

Faut se lever, il faut célébrer,” (We must stand up, we must celebrate) sang Paul Demers.

In 1989, François Dubé and Paul Demers wrote Notre Place to mark the passage of Ontario’s French Language Services Act. The song also celebrates Franco-Ontarians, and so it was the natural choice for a rallying cry in the fight to save Ottawa’s Montfort Hospital in the late 1990s.

The Government of Ontario’s official recognition of the song also pays homage to Paul Demers, who died on October 29, 2016.
