New Brunswick plans to abolish early French immersion programs

Protests from New Brunswickers make the province reconsider its decision.

In 2007, the New Brunswick Department of Education undertook a review of French second-language education programs. Following the review, it recommended abolishing early French immersion programs. This decision caused an uproar among the population.

In the end, the Department held consultations on the issue and decided to offer students the opportunity to register for French immersion in Grade 3.
