The Government of Canada announces the Roadmap for Canada’s Linguistic Duality 2008-2013: Acting for the Future

In December 2007, Prime Minister Stephen Harper asks Bernard Lord to conduct Canada-wide consultations on linguistic duality in order to update the Action Plan for Official Languages, which is due to expire in 2008.

The consultations were among the sources of information used to prepare the Roadmap.

This new federal strategy provided for a $1.1 billion investment to encourage linguistic duality among Canadians and to provide support for official language minority communities in five priority areas: health, justice, immigration, economic development and arts and culture.
