Gabrielle Roy House opens in Manitoba

Gabrielle Roy’s childhood home is an important symbol that often appears in the author’s work.

The descriptions in Roy’s books paint a vivid mental picture of the house as it was when the author lived there. Street of Riches is set in the house where Roy was born in 1909 and in which she spent her entire childhood and the first years of her adult life—nearly 28 years.

In 1997, the Maison Gabrielle-Roy Corporation purchased the Manitoban author’s childhood home, restored it and opened it to the public as a museum.
