English or French: Canadian public servants can choose their language of work
The Parliament of Canada adopts the Resolution on Official Languages in the Public Service of Canada.
This resolution confirmed the right of public servants to work in the official language of their choice, subject to certain conditions, and provided for the linguistic designation of positions.
The intent was to increase the use of the French language within the public service and make the institution sufficiently bilingual so that it could serve the public in either official language.
