The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Agreement on the management of Francophone schools is signed

The province develops a French-first-language program for Franco-Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who want their children to have French-language instruction.

The program provides for instruction in French at all levels and in all subjects, except for the English-second-language courses.

The curriculum aims to meet the needs of province’s Francophone minority community. The language objectives are proficiency in French as the first language and in English as the second language.
